There are several ways.

  • Test a game. if.game-testing.org has people who need testing, as does the announcements subsection and intfiction.org.
  • Give a transcript for a game, especially one an author says has a post-comp release
  • judge in a competition, anywhere from a small game jam to IFComp
  • put reviews on a blog. They don't have to be fancy or formal. They can even be "what I played." The blog doesn't have to be terribly visible.
  • see if anything at http://www.ifwiki.org needs updating or expounding
  • see if anything at http://ifdb.tads.org needs updating (e.g. recent competitions)
  • write a walkthrough or map for a game and submit it to archive.org
  • start a discussion about a game that confuses/intrigues you.
  • write an extension, if you're technically proficient

I'm assuming archive.org should be ifarchive.org?
